You know how I feel about newborn sessions… they simply melt my heart. I had the pleasure of getting to photograph this little one in my studio and it was pure bliss. Little Nolan sure is surrounded by so much love. We not only had his parents here but also his big sister who was clearly in love with her new baby brother. As I’ve mentioned before, I think it’s so important to have every member of the family feel included and loved because that’s what being a family is.

I think it’s especially important to prepare your children for new siblings, to remind them how loved they are and how important they are.

Here are some things you can do to prepare your little ones:

– Show them photos from when they were babies. This will help familiarize them with things that happen when someone is a baby. If big brother or sister has done a professional newborn photo session – show them their photos – this will help them to feel special & understand that they get to be a part of their new little sister or brother’s photo session. This will also help familiarize them with words like “sister”, “brother”, and “baby”.

– When the new baby arrives, try to do something special for your older child. This can be a gift, or having one-on-one time with someone special (grandparent, parent).

Just seeing this sweet girl smile, hug, and caress her baby brother showed how excited she was to be a big sister. This kind of sibling bond is incomparable. I know that when they grow up they’re going to be the best of friends and look back at these photos with a big smile on their face.
