Why Milestone Sessions Matter

You know how they say the days are long but the years are short? It’s true. And when you have a baby, that first year flies by in a blur of snuggles, giggles, and big little milestones. One of my sweet membership babies, Lyla, just wrapped up her first year, and I couldn’t love her sessions more. Each one tells a different part of her story, and getting to photograph her throughout the year has been such a joy.

Newborn Session: In the Studio

We started Lyla’s journey with a cozy newborn session in my Nashville natural light studio. She was just days old—tiny, peaceful, and perfectly squishy. Those early newborn days are so fleeting, which is why I love keeping the vibe slow, calm, and baby-led – documenting your baby as they are, because they are perfect just as themselves!

Six Months: At Home, Where the Magic Happens

By six months, Lyla was full of expression—and sitting up like a pro! For this session, we shifted to her home for a relaxed, light-filled morning in her nursery. These in-home milestone sessions are some of my favorites. There’s something special about photographing babies in the spaces they’re growing up in. Lyla’s bedroom was the perfect soft backdrop for all the giggles, rolls, and snuggles with Mom.
We even added in a few extended family photos with Lyla’s grandma & aunt who were in town visiting!

One Year: Cake and Celebration in the Studio

To mark her first birthday, we brought it back to the studio. Lyla showed up ready to party—walking, smiling, and ready to dig into her little cake. First birthday milestone sessions are always a blast, and hers was no exception. We kept it sweet and simple, letting her curiosity and personality shine.
