Let’s talk fall family photos, but not just photos… an outfit guide for fall family photos!! I think one of the most popular questions I get asked is “What should I wear?”. Clothing can make or break your photos! You could love the lighting, the location, & expressions in a photo & still not be happy if the clothing is distracting you from appreciating all the good aspects!
What makes a good outfit for a fall family photo session depends largely on the colors & patterns.
In this post, I’ll be sharing a few tips on how to create a perfect color palette and share my favorite!
Tip 1: I recommend 2-3 colors within a color palette for family photos. Some of my favorite color palettes that are always a go to are neutrals and earthy tones. Think beige, white, cream, tan, light brown, light orange, rust orange, terracotta, sage green… I love how earthy and natural these colors look especially when taking outdoors photos.
Tip 2: For sessions with 3+ people, I recommend that you incorporate both solids & patterns. If everyone wears solids of 2-3 different colors, it can come off looking like different sports teams standing next to each other. That is probably not the look you’re going for ;-).
(For sessions with 2 people – you can both wear solid colors that compliment each other OR one person can wear a solid & the other can wear a pattern.)
