As a family photographer in Franklin, TN, I’m always drawn to places that let families simply be themselves. This gorgeous tree-lined path is one of those spots — quiet, natural, and full of little pockets of light that make every session feel easy and connected.
For this session, I photographed a wonderful family with two school-aged kiddos. Sometimes photos make people a little nervous — but nature has a way of helping us all slow down. Often when I meet up with families, I can feel their nerves at first. I always remind them that I’ve got them — I’ll guide the poses, adjust what needs adjusting, and make sure everything feels easy and fun.
But Mother Nature helps, too. As we walk to this spot, something shifts. The moment families round the corner and see it, they usually gasp and say, “Oh, this is so beautiful!” And right then, I can feel the fresh air and the trees helping them relax. Shoulders drop, breathing slows, and suddenly the session becomes less about the camera and more about simply being together.

No matter the season, this path always brings something beautiful to work with:
Whether we’re working with greenery, bare branches, or warm tones, this space has a way of highlighting connection above everything else.
The best photos rarely come from perfect posing. They’re found in the quiet moments in between — a gentle hug, a hand reaching out, siblings bursting into giggles, parents admiring their kids as they explore.
During this session, every step along the path brought out another moment of connection. That’s what makes outdoor family sessions so meaningful.
Dress for comfort. Choose pieces you can move in — soft textures, layers, and simple patterns always photograph beautifully.
Bring just a few meaningful extras. A favorite blanket or small item adds personality without distracting from the connection.
Let kids lead. The best images come when children are free to run, play, and explore. Their genuine expressions give your gallery so much life.
Every family has their own rhythm, and I love capturing it in a way that feels true to who you are — whether that’s playing in the grass, walking down a pretty path, or settling into a quiet moment together.
