(Featuring Rowan’s 6-Month Session — Family Photographer in Franklin, TN & Nashville)

As a family photographer in Franklin, TN, I’ve learned that the magic rarely comes from perfect posing. It shows up in the real moments — the snuggles, the giggles, the way your kids look at you, and the way you look back at them.
During Rowan’s 6-month session, we split our time between the studio and his grandparents’ nearby home. From his sweet baby smiles to big brother’s bubble-blowing antics to grandparents soaking in every second — the whole afternoon felt relaxed, playful, and wonderfully “them.”
Most six-month-olds are ready to go the second we start — but toddlers? They often need a little space to adjust. And that’s completely normal.
With Rowan’s big brother, we didn’t jump straight into posing. Instead, we let him explore, play, and get comfortable with me being there. Once he realized he could be himself — run, laugh, blow bubbles — his personality bloomed. That’s when the best images happen.
Letting kids ease in at their own pace sets the tone for a session that feels natural instead of forced.
Siblings and grandparents can completely shift the vibe — in the best way.
Big brother came outside with us, quickly forgetting the camera as he chased bubbles and played in the yard. Those playful, unscripted moments became some of my favorites. And when grandparents stepped in? Pure joy. Kids instantly relax when surrounded by the people who love them most.
We photographed part of this session at home simply because it worked well for their family — not because there’s one “right” location.
Some kids feel most themselves in familiar spaces like a backyard or front porch. Others love being at the studio or exploring a pretty outdoor spot nearby. The best location is the one that fits your family and keeps the experience easy and enjoyable.
The best direction I can give is usually just encouragement to be together. Tickles, walks, games, bubble-blowing — anything that gets your little ones moving and connecting.
When kids are having fun and parents are engaged in the moment, authentic smiles show up on their own.
Kids are unpredictable in the most wonderful way. Breaks, snacks, outfit changes — they’re all part of creating real, heartfelt images. Some of the sweetest moments come in between: a quick cuddle, a reset in someone’s arms, a quiet pause before the next burst of energy.
The more relaxed the process feels, the more genuine your photos will be.
Whether it’s a baby’s gummy grin, a proud big sibling showing off, or grandparents loving on their grandbabies — these are the moments you’ll want to remember.
Capturing families in a way that feels true to your story is my favorite part of this work.
If you’re dreaming of photos that feel natural, warm, and full of connection, I’d love to create them with you.
