“It’s such a grand thing to be a mother of a mother — that’s why the world calls her grandmother.” – Author Unknown
This Mother’s Day session brought me back to my roots. Literally! When my uncle came into town for my sister’s wedding a few weeks ago, it seemed appropriate to take some photos of my uncle and mom with their mom (my grandma). They hadn’t had photos taken together since my mom and uncle were young children! And, if last year taught me anything, it’s that photos with your loved ones matter at all stages of life. We shouldn’t stop photographing our families after our kids reach a certain age.
But this session also brought me back to my photography roots. When I first began experimenting with photography, it was all about the person and their relationship with others in the frame, and simple backgrounds. That’s still true of my style today (which is why my studio is simple and minimal), but something about this session felt like circling back to where it all began…maybe it’s because one of my earliest photography subjects were my grandparents!
Hope you all enjoy these photos!
