This maternity session was taken in one of my favorite Tennessee locations. Its filled with all your countryside, white dress, summertime maternity photo dreams! I’m so excited to share these!
Kim brought the perfect maternity session clothing too. Seriously, if outdoor maternity sessions are in your future – take note ladies!
After Kim changed into her second outfit, a white flowy dress from Forever 21, we began a short hike up to the top of a hill. It was here that I had a little epiphany about maternity photos.
Sometimes expectant moms ask “Should I have Maternity photos taken?” or “Why are maternity photos important?”. My typical answer touches on 2 things: First, the importance of showing your child what he/she looked liked in Mommy’s tummy (photos have a big impact on a child’s confidence in self & family) AND secondly, maternity sessions can offer encouragement for expecting moms in the long last trimester.
HOWEVER – Looking at Kim on that hilltop, new reasons for maternity sessions popped into my head. Kim is obviously beautiful, but she also seemed so powerful.
1) Maternity sessions celebrate the strength and miracle growing inside of you. I know this idea seems simple, but dang it hit me hard with a new conviction during this session. This season of life is mind-blowing and full of wonder at what the human body can do and the miracle of growing a life inside you – its powerful and should be documented and celebrated.
AND watching Kim and Drew giggle and tell stories as I photographed them together it dawned on me in a new way — Maternity sessions aren’t always just about Mom & baby — this is about a new season for you & your spouse/partner.
2) This is your last season being a family of 2 (or 3 or 4, etc. depending on if you have other children). And these last 9 months are different than any other season you’ve had together. This season if full of excitement, change, planning, and a new form of team-work. And all of this deserves to be documented and celebrated.
Share this with someone who is on the fence about a maternity sessions – it might be the nudge they need to decide to document this short and precious season!
Now, enjoy Kim’s stunning maternity photos!
