“I had this vision of my wedding for years,” Kat says. “That it would be my friends and family and loved ones all dancing barefoot on the grass. I remember having a moment at the reception where I realized that was exactly what was happening and that it was even more wonderful than I imagined.”
Today’s wedding is a summer evening dream. From the beautiful old Presbyterian Church where the ceremony took place, to the hilltop of Ravenswood Mansion in late afternoon sunlight for the reception, where some serious dance moves went down, it is the epitome of what a summer evening should look like. Lots of good food, golden sunlight, dancing + champagne – and best of all, a love story with a happy ending.
You might notice Kat’s wearing a black leather bracelet through the photos. The bracelet is from the year she spent living in Thailand working for IJM, on a team that handled child sexual assault and exploitation cases (specifically aftercare). The bracelet was tied onto her arm while she was visiting clients at a shelter – they were learning jewelry making, and practicing tying those black bands was the first step. She never took it off, wearing it constantly as a way of carrying those kids home with her. Right before the wedding, when she realized she hadn’t taken the bracelet off, she decided not to. In her own words, “this was the most beautiful day of my life, and that little bracelet was my way of bringing those kids with me into it.”
